About the Alliance

The Lake Thunderbird Watershed Alliance was formed in 2020 to work collaboratively with residents, communities and other stakeholders to protect the water quality and quantity of Lake Thunderbird. The Lake Thunderbird Watershed Alliance will also serve as a clearinghouse for information about Lake Thunderbird including implementation projects, research and outreach materials.

One of the goals of the LTWA is to develop an integrated watershed management plan for the Lake Thunderbird watershed. This plan will serve as a guidance document for those that need high-level answers or an overview of the watershed program. It will be a critical document for community decision makers to reference and understand as the program progresses.

The LTWA also provides educational materials, presentations and other resources to help protect/improve the water quality in Lake Thunderbird. To better understand issues in the lake and the streams that feed it, the LTWA also serves as a clearinghouse for research that is conducted throughout the watershed.

integrated watershed management

The LTWA developed an Integrated Watershed Management Plan with expertise from a Technical Advisory Group and input from watershed residents. The purpose is to have a dynamic guide for protecting the water quantity and quality of the watershed through measurable goals that promote cooperation among all existing stakeholders and entities. The document outlines the state of the watershed, specific watershed objectives, management strategies and milestones, and an education and outreach plan.
